Third Sunday of Lent
Lent and Easter Schedule
Small Group Dinner Socials
Saturday, March 21 at 7 p.m., Church of the Apostles kicks off the return of our small group dinner socials! The purpose is to give our church family the opportunity to get better acquainted with members in a small group setting over dinner in a parishioner’s home. The adult small group dinner parties consist of 6-8 individuals gathering in a host home. The host home will be asked only to provide the home, beverages, and bread for the meal. Guests will be asked to bring the main course — soup (since we are in Lent), salad, dessert, and possibly an appetizer. For families with children, babysitting will be provided. If you would like to participate, please use the sign-up sheet in the lobby. Once the number of participants is known, you will be contacted with your host’s name. Your host will then get in touch with you to discuss what food item you can bring that evening. For questions/information, please contact Debbie Fruithandler: 972-9779-4574 [email protected].

Request forms are available through the Parish office. For questions or reservations, please contact De Dee at: [email protected]
We are very excited to announce that we are now set up with AmazonSmile, a website operated by Amazon with the same products, prices, and shopping features as Amazon.com. When you shop on AmazonSmile, the AmazonSmile Foundation will donate 0.5% of the purchase price of eligible products to the charitable organization of your choice. Here are the steps to make Church of the Apostles your choice:
1. Log into your Amazon account.
Our office phone system is “dropping” voicemails. If there is no answer on our office phone, please call back — or text Jonna or Father Tim if urgent!
Flowers for the Altar
The new sign-up sheet for 2020 Altar flowers has been posted on the bulletin board in the hallway of the Parish Hall, with available dates through the end of this year. If you would like to purchase flowers for either side of the Altar (or both) the amount is $50 per side. Sign up now to get the date(s) you want!
Austin Street Shelter Ministry
Please consider helping us with our ministry of feeding the homeless and hungry in downtown Dallas. There are several ways to help. You can donate food such as hard boiled eggs, fruit (oranges and bananas) and sandwiches (for example, ham, turkey, tuna salad, chicken salad, etc.). If the food is made at home, please ensure there are no condiments on the sandwiches and that they are individually wrapped and placed back into the bread sleeve. For more information, contact Lynette Yates: 214-437-5875 [email protected]
Lenten Soup, Salad & Spirituality
As part of the Lenten observation, one of Apostles longstanding small groups will be meeting in the Parish Hall every Wednesday at 6:45 p.m., beginning March 4, for a simple, light meal of soup and salad, etc. accompanied by a brief devotional or Lenten lesson and closing prayer. We’d like you to join us! Each Sunday a menu/sign-up sheet for that week will be available in the lobby. Please remember to sign up if you plan to attend, so we will know how much food to prepare! While we would love to be able to accommodate dietary restrictions, we are trying to keep things easy and quick — if the soup of the week doesn’t work for you, please feel free to join us for salad, etc. and the devotional! Childcare is not planned, but if there is enough interest, we will look into arrangements.
Count Me In – Return Your Card Soon!
Thank you for making Church of the Apostles your spiritual home! For 2020 we are asking everyone to consider saying “Count Me In!” for participation and support, however you may feel called. If you have not returned a 2020 card yet, please pick up one TODAY (they are on the table in the lobby) and either drop it in the offering plate or put it in the parish office. Your returned card will be your way of saying to Apostles “COUNT ME IN!”
It’s the time of year when Church of the Apostles – like most parishes – considers our upcoming annual budget and asks for your support. This year, however, we will approach things a little differently. More details will follow, but we want to share a few subtle but important changes. Most importantly, we believe you will like the new direction enough to join with us and say,
Count Me In!
1. Even as we carefully watch our budget, we invite you to participate beyond just financial support. To that end, our first commitment together will be asking everyone to get personally involved in at least one ministry area in 2020. (Yes, intercessory prayer while homebound or traveling counts!). We will offer our first commitments of service during the last two weekends of November, prior to the Advent season.
2. When you receive a “2020 Pledge Card,” you will see that we are NOT asking for a specific pledge amount. Instead, we are seeking your commitment to financially support the ministries of Church of the Apostles in 2020 — but with no specific dollar amount indicated. We will gladly begin receiving these cards as early as the first weekend of December.
As parish leaders, our personal hope is for everyone to embrace some form of service and giving – with 100% participation, at whatever level you feel called.
Scripture reminds us that, just like a human body, our congregation is made of many individual parts. Each part is important, with its own unique function:
“Just as a body, though one, has many parts, but all its many parts form one body, so it is with Christ” (1 Corinthians 12:12).
When we all share our gifts, then we not only make possible our Ministries in Action at Apostles, we glorify God and join our lives to His loving care and purposes.
For 2020, please join us first by simply saying,
Count Me In!
